The Beginning of the End, I think...

As we all know David Tennant's brilliant reign as the last Time Lord will come to an end on New Years Day in The End of Time: Part 2 and I think I speak for many fans when I say, David Tennant, I'll miss you. In fact Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor has been so loved that his last appearances in the role have been given extra advertisement in form of the BBC One Christmas ident.

Unfortunately the Christmas Day first parter did not leave me feeling anything but confused, if not just a little excited about the appearance of Timothy Dalton. I understand that in a two parter special that the first episode is usually used to build up to the big events and revelations in the second part, but, it usually needs to make sense. Scenes moved from one perspective to another with no sense of fluidity and events happened with no explanation, other than, we need this to happen so let's do it and then forget about it.

When the BBC brought back Doctor Who it's aim was to reinvent a much loved character in order to introduce it to a new generation and to make it accessible to all members of the family. Up until now they had succeeded in doing this and the show helped to bring back viewers to a dying Saturday Evening TV slot. However, this all seem to have been forgotten on Christmas Day when my mum, who is one of those who watches Doctor who and no other SciFi, exclaimed 15 minutes into the program that she was confused. All I could do was agree with her, I couldn't keep up with what was happening, which makes me wonder how many other households were thinking the same thing.

I can only hope that when I sit down to watch Doctor Who on New Years Day that I am not left dissapointed once again. I am genuinly curious and excited about the return of Galifrey and that is mainly due to Timothy Dalton, a legend of British theatre and film.
